The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office currently has two multi-purpose patrol dogs. K-9 “Storm” is a Belgian Malinois. K-9 “Rico” is a Dutch Shepherd. Storm and Rico were both born in Belgium.
K-9 handlers received 120 hours of initial training with their K9’s. Handler’s train with their K9’s on a weekly basis to maintain and refine their skills. The K9’s are trained in the areas of narcotic detection, suspect apprehension, and tracking. K9’s can detect several different narcotics. Both K9’s have been instrumental in the apprehension of numerous drug offenders, as well as working in our schools to continue making our county drug free. Our K9’s are also available for community presentations upon request. Request can be made through Captain Shane Fann. Captain Fann can be contacted through the Sheriff’s Office direct line or by e-mail. The K9’s are an important part of our department and do their part in continuing to make this community a safe place for all of us to live.
